This VR experience, "300 Seconds," is designed to help Parkinson's patients' family members better understand the unique challenges of this disease. In this space, users are forced to give up some degree of mobility to complete daily tasks such as answering the phone. Through this empathetic machine, it offers a new perspective to re-evaluate our understanding of those family members who are struggling with something we can never experience or imagine.
300 seconds is the average wait time for me to get through to my grandmother, which is equivalent to dialing five times all busy and finally the phone operator is automatically hung up on the call. For patients with Parkinson's, it is extremely difficult to accomplish even the smallest of daily tasks, and it is always difficult for them to gain sufficient relationships and patience from society and even their families.
